July is an ideal month for visiting a local farm and pick your own fruit or vegetable. We had a fantastic day out picking strawberries at Sharnfold Farm in East Sussex.
The UK Mangetout season starts in June and runs throughout the summer until August, that is if you grow your own plants. Most of the Mangetout pods available in the supermarkets are imported from countries as far as Kenya, Egypt or China and they are available all year.
The biggest producer of broad beans is China, followed by Ethiopia and Australia. In the UK their main season runs from June till September. It’s a good opportunity to buy locally grown beans and be more sustainable.
